NEW NIGHT!!! The Record Player launches at Concrete on Saturday 15th May

Clare Publicity is proud to announce details of a new night:  The Record Player

We pick the year, you pick the songs and the rest is history.

1979. Blondie, Talking Heads, The Clash, ELO, The Sugarhill Gang, Ian Dury, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Newman. Imagine if for one night you could take yourself back to a certain year in time and hear all the great music from that moment.  Well now thankfully you can.

Taking place at Shoreditch’s hottest new venue Concrete, The Record Player is a new night devoted to the sheer thrill of music. Each month we journey through time and pick a year to play music from – 1954, 1968, 1982…we could land anywhere. This is our opportunity to hunt through our music collections and really immerse ourselves in an era- a chance to dance about to the songs we might not have been old enough to enjoy the first time round!

And for our launch party we’re not taking any chances- oh no, we’re bringing out the big guns and starting with a year of musical legend….1979 - the year of The Clash, Michael Jackson, Blondie, Talking Heads, Ian Dury, The Sugar Hill Gang, The Jam, ABBA, ACDC, Donna Summer…..it’s a corker!!  Traversing the disco era with early hip hop and punk, the height of new wave and the birth of modern pop, 1979 was a seminal year in music at home and abroad.

Overseen by 4 dedicated crate diggers, Gerard Phillips, Becky Hoghton, Rob Lewis and Simon Allen (more recently know for their successful White Wedding nights), The Record Player is a night for music lovers with more than a touch of geekery involved. From beloved anthems to forgotten treasures we play the tunes that celebrate the musical journey of each year regardless of genre or chart position.  It’s not about the gimmicks; it’s just a club night for people who think that some old records are so good they make you glad to be alive.

But we need your help – we want your hints, tips and recommendations.  Visit us online at
http://the-record-player.tumblr.com/  to find out the highs and lows of 1979 (the Walkman was released – yay!!, Thatcher came in to power – boo!!) and to study the form for the all-important Record Player Top 20 Vote.  Following the ballot, the final hour of the night will countdown your favourite songs of the year from 20 to 1. Make your vote count!!

The Record Player - we solemnly swear to never knowingly play the same record twice (unless it was a re-release in a different year and its just that good!)
