Its time once again to get spooked.  Yes its Halloween, on a weekend! And that inevitably means that London is awash with ghouls and vampires, scenes of cobwebs, black lace, fangs and lots and lots of fake blood.  EVERYWHERE!

BUT we can guarantee that there is only one Halloween party to be seen at that will take you back to a time when neon was the colour of choice, along with big smiley faces, baggy trousers, braces and cropped tops.  A time when RAVE was the music of choice and the emergence of hip hop into the mainstream just kept on growing.  That party is PUMP UP THE VOLUME.  Bringing to you this Halloween an extra special party in a Secret East London Warehouse with 2 rooms of special retro Halloween fun.

PUMP UP THE VOLUME has gone BIG!  And to celebrate this fact they’ve only gone and booked 90’s rave heroes, ALTERN8 to headline the main room and bring back the old skool vibes!!!  Back in the 90’s, Altern8 symbolised the rave movement, famed for their rave gas masks and chemical warfare boiler suits, their trademark sound was loud electronic tracks with a heavy bass line.  We can’t wait!

Room two is hosted by the anarchic and slightly crazy bunch that go by the name of Lost & Found. Famed for their regular festival appearances at Bestival, Secret Garden Party, Glastonbury and Rockness, Lost & Found describe themselves as "bespoke interactive nonsense facilitators with an emphasis on getting people involved". These are true party people with a HUGE emphasis on fun. They will be programming a selection of DJ's, (probably bonkers) Halloween games, and they promise to be big on the fancy dress action!

Plus the Pump Up The Volume residents Wang Chung, Sophie Lloyd and Naomiii will be on hand playing everything from 90’s pop to rave classics, via some old skool hip hop, so expect some Wu-Fang Clan, some LL Ghoul J, or some Beastie Boys and Gravediggaz mixed with some Whitney Hooooooston, Bizarre Inc, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, 2 Bad Mice, House of Pain, Nightcrawlers or even some Right Said Dead!  [sorry ed]

Pump Up The Volume just threw their third party at Visions on 2nd October, and while only six months old, Pump Up The Volume has firmly established itself as THE old skool party for East London's party people. They also rocked it at this year’s new London electronic festival, LED in Victoria Park.  So in the words of Yazz, ‘the only way is up’. And yes sirree it certainly is.
The location of the event will be released 48 hours in advance. So stay tuned to the facebook group for details... http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=340596232051  Also, as this is Halloween, we highly encourage everyone to go that extra mile with dressing up for this one.  Try out your best spooky outfits with an old skool twist!
Advance tickets are highly recommended...

THE BLURB:

The 90's Children have grown up and are now ready to remember!

PUMP UP THE VOLUME is the new night about town.  Bored of the 80’s revival?  Been inspired by the current hark back to 90’s fashion in Top Shop?  Want to remember that last decade of the 20th Century before everything went all ‘digital and download’?  Well PUMP UP THE VOLUME is here to serve….

The 1990’s were a great decade for music.  The dance scene exploded and created the many sub-genres that we know and love today.  Pump Up the Volume by MARRS, was one record that defined the sound of the decade. It became a one-hit wonder of rare influence, was a number 1 hit in many countries and is generally regarded as a significant milestone in the development of British house music and music sampling.  And so it seems the perfect name (and no doubt last tune of many fun night to come) for a night dedicated to the brilliance of the 90’s.

The 1990’s in the world of music were a decade synonymous with samples, just as the world of 90’s fashion took the same approach.  Not really an iconic decade for style, it was characterized by minimalist styles, some of which were dubbed ‘anti fashion’, a backlash against the excessive fashion of the 1980s. Unlike previous decades the 1990’s were not defined by any one style, but rather a mash-up of past eras and decades.

So what you’ll find at PUMP UP THE VOLUME is an up-for-it-crowd, remembering that anarchistic attitude with a pure passion for music.  The music you’ll be hearing will jump from old school hip-hop, pop, and dance classics.  The night will be held together by the all female residents: Naomiii and Minkioni [see full details below], plus guest DJ’s dropping by to play alternative 90’s sets.

The venue - Visions - is an old video shop in Dalston transformed into a nightclub.  With a 300 capacity complete with old video wall it’s the perfect setting for Pump Up The Volume.

So if you want to hear records by the likes of TLC, Altern 8, Whitney Houston, Rhythm is Rhythm, Bizzare Inc, En Vogue, Jazzy Jeff, Lucy Pearl, Vanilla Ice, Gang Starr, Madonna, Q Tip and a whole lot more, and you want to dance again with pure abandonment while wearing your baggy trousers and cropped tops, or smiley t-shirts with a big grin on your face, then you know where to come!

'Stupendously successful.... a night dedicated to the glory of the Power Ballad' - Guardian
'A fun-as-fuck communal club experience' - NME

September's Ultimate Power was, as always, a quasi-religious event, as 1100 people packed into the Scala to worship the powerful gods of ballad: Messrs Loaf, Collins, Tyler and Jovi and many more besides. Your continued support and ability to create the best atmosphere in London continues to amaze us...

But next up: our yearly ghoulish extravaganza is confirmed for Friday October 29thl Yes, it's time for Bat Out of Helloween III: The Monster is Loose. Fancy dress is encouraged, and the best night of your life is guaranteed.

Presented by the UP DJs, Ultimate Power is personified by a life-changing experience, your rebirth into the greatest songs ever written. That and five industrial strength smoke machines and cathedral sized candelabras that would put a Meat Loaf video to shame.

Since humble beginnings in the winter of 2006, Ultimate Power has outgrown itself through five homes until resting at its new abode, The Scala, which has hosted four events, all sold out, with increasing speed each time. They will unleash even more incredible life-changing ballads, more ill advised (yet amazing) uses of hairspray, and a hell of a lot of air punches. Ultimate Power have slayed festival crowds for the past three summers, and now they’ve entered a bigger lair they’re set to slay an even larger portion of the population. Forget the recession, put your fist in the air like you’ve got big hair!

Get out the hairspray, planet sized egos and motorbikes, Ultimate Power is hitting The Scala on October 29th like a bat out of hell!

This night really will change your life. Bring your Air instruments and throat sweets. Leave your inhibitions at the bar and come follow us to the Promised Land where pure balladic power will move you to your very core!

REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL - THE MUSICAL

WARNING: THIS PRESS RELEASE CONTAINS GRATUITOUS USE OF IAN DURY LYRICS

Knock me down with a feather!

Paul Sirett’s new musical production REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL takes to the stage at:
The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich (14-16 October)
Theatre Royal Stratford East (22 October-13 November)
(both near Essex in case you couldn’t tell)

Set during a time of political change and economic hardship, a top class cast and ascorching live band pay tribute to Dury’s anarchic spirit and propel this riotous skiddling, diddling, bled-white, died-black coming of age tale.

It’s 1979. Ian Dury and the Blockheads’ new single REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL (Part 3) is climbing the charts. Labour has just lost the recent election to the Tories. Vinnie and his mates are big Ian Dury fans and they’d do anything to see him at the Hammersmith Odeon. They don’t have tickets and the gig’s sold out - but then
events take a surprising turn….

Written by Olivier-nominated theatre writer Paul Sirett (Come Dancing, The Big Life,Bad Blood Blues, A Night In Tunisia) and directed by Jenny Sealey MBE (Artistic Director, Graeae. Bent, Blasted and Signs of a Star Shaped Diva) REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL is a co-production between The New Wolsey Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Graeae - the country’s flagship disabled-led theatre company.

No strangers to first night nerves every one night stand, the cast for
REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL:
Nadia Albina as Janine
Stephen Collins as Colin
Stephen Lloyd as Vinnie
Daniel McGowan as Dave
Garry Robson as Bobby
Karen Spicer as Pat

Choosing not to have a fool in their six-piece band, red-hot live musicians Mat Fraser, Robert Hyman, John Kelly, Daniel McGowan, Nixon Rosembert and Paul Sirett pay tribute to Dury’s anarchic spirit performing hits including ‘Reasons to be Cheerful’, ‘Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll’, ‘Sweet Gene Vincent’, ‘Spasticus Autisticus’ and ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick’. Too nutty to be naughty, during the run up to the performances REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL will be gathering together as many people and organisations as possible to support the production by asking them to supply their own 3 REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL.

Dr Martens - the legendary footwear brand - have given some real eyeball pleasers supplying especially donated pairs of DMs that celebrities and other supporters of Graeae and REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL will decorate with their “3 Reasons To Be Cheerful”. The customised footwear is sure to be something to appeal to every woman, every man and will be on display at both theatres during all show days.

Members of the public will also be encouraged to submit their own personal “3 Reasons To Be Cheerful” via the REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL microsite www.reasonstobecheerfulthemusical.co.uk and a campaign via Facebook to join in with the hundreds of others submitted by celebrities and supporters of the show. These “Reasons” will all appear within the Random Reason Generator - an exciting on-line arcade style application where the users can call up a Reason To Be Cheerful to help brighten up their day and bring smiles to their faces.
